Mitzvah Day
In its seventh year Kerem Shalom's Mitzvah DAY ONE is now a well-subscribed, much anticipated, highly populated, volunteer-run event that our membership is proud of: a day on which we experience the power of a community effort towards Tikkun Olam, healing the world.
Tzedakah, righteous giving, Gimilut Chasadim, acts of loving kindness, and social action, all are aspects of Tikkun Olam.
With over 250 members participating and some 30 volunteers either running projects or assisting at Mitzvah Day, your commitment made all the difference. Thank you to everyone! Many of our projects continue throughout the year with the support of dedicated volunteers.

Greater Boston Jewish Coalition for Literacy
If you love working with children grades kindergarten through third grade; have one hour a week to volunteer and think literacy is important, then come and join the Kerem Shalom team that is part of the Greater Boston Jewish Coalition for Literacy (GBJCL).
Volunteers are asked to commit one hour each week (at yours and the teachers convenience) during school hours to work one-on-one with students who need help in bringing their reading skills to grade level. NO PREVIOUS TEACHING EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. All volunteers will receive training before working with their reading partners. Six of us have been doing this wonderful mitzvah for two years already and we would love to expand our merry band of volunteers. We have partnered with the Green Meadow Elementary School in Maynard. As one volunteer remarked “It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.”

Open Table
Open Table was founded in 1989 to provide weekly nutritious meals and a food pantry to anyone who wanted them – no questions asked. Our purpose is to address the hunger that exists in our area and to do this in a manner that respects the privacy and dignity of our guests and provides them with a few moments of respite from their daily challenges. The Open Table is a way to open arms and hearts in the community, share success and gifts, practice values that enhance common humanity and to give and receive kindness.
