Family Education serves to build community at Kerem Shalom, strengthen our families and the tie between families and the synagogue, and provide support for fostering Jewish life at home. Our Family Educator, Nancy Kaplan, presents one or two Family Education Programs per grade level, as well as community-wide programs for individuals and families, and ongoing monthly Interfaith Conversations. Family Education programs for each grade level are carefully planned to dovetail with the religious school curriculum so that:
- Parents and children can learn together about our Jewish culture and heritage (text, holiday, rituals, prayers and practices)
- Adults and parents who are new to Judaism can learn and be challenged without being intimidated
- Parents will understand the importance of partnering in their children's learning
- Through parallel programing parents have opportunities for deeper, more enriched learning experiences, which will enable them to more comfortably take a lead in teaching Judasim and modeling Jewish values for their children at home.
We look forward to having you and your famliy join us in Jewish learning and celebration! Mitzvah Day In its seventh year Kerem Shalom's Mitzvah DAY ONE is now a well-subscribed, much anticipated, highly populated, volunteer-run event that our membership is proud of: a day on which we experience the power of a community effort towards Tikkun Olam, healing the world. Tzedakah, righteous giving, Gimilut Chasadim, acts of loving kindness, and social action, all are aspects of Tikkun Olam. With over 250 members participating and some 30 volunteers either running projects or assisting at Mitzvah Day, your commitment made all the difference. Thank you to everyone! Many of our projects continue throughout the year with the support of dedicated volunteers. Click here to see what we accomplished on Mitzvah DAY ONE, 5769.
