                                                Washington Crossing the Delaware

A presentation by Dr. Joseph L. “Joel” Andrews

Sunday, November 22, 3:00-4:30 PM

Everyone here is familiar with the battles of Boston, Lexington and Concord.

But few are aware of the important role of Jewish soldiers and
supporters in helping the patriots win the American Revolution. Haym
Salomon was the trusted financier who negotiated key loans from France,
Holland and Spain to bring cash to pay the financially starved
Continental Army. Col. Isaac Franks fought in many battles throughout
the eight years of the Revolution, often as a an officer in George
Washington's staff,.  Major Benjamin Nones fought bravely, especially
in tough battles in the South.  All of these men were my ancestors.
Learn about their bravery and that of other unheralded Jews in helping
to defeat the British army against heavy odds. Also learn about their
other key contributions to Jewish and to American life in eighteenth
century America and how their achievements enabled Jews who followed
them to participate fully in American life.
