The United States Climate Alliance is a bipartisan coalition of governors committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, consistent with the goals of the Paris Agreement. Governors from 25 states and territories are currently represented.

The alliance’s goal is for the states to collectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions at least 50% below 2005 levels by 2030 and to achieve overall net-zero emissions no later than 2050. One way they will do so is by tapping into the power of forests and forest products to sequester carbon. Some state policies and programs, for example, will include techniques to protect forests and other natural landscapes from development, reduce carbon losses from wildfire and increase the number of trees in cities.

American Forests and five other non-governmental organizations work with U.S. Climate Alliance staff to provide support to the states as they create and implement climate policies and programs. American Forests has held several national and regional workshops with state leaders to help create their programs and policies to meet their natural and working lands goals.
