At American Forests, we believe all voices can and should be heard. This approach has made it possible for us to inspire people with differing viewpoints to come together to share ideas and unite around solutions. Magnifying a message with many voices is what helps make policymakers take notice.
1t.org US Chapter
1t.org is a global initiative to conserve, restore and grow 1 trillion trees by 2030. American Forests and World Economic Forum co-lead the 1t.org US Chapter. U.S.-based companies, nonprofit organizations and governments have already pledged more than 50 billion trees.
Forest-Climate Working Group
The Forest-Climate Working Group, founded in 2007, is the only forest sector-wide coalition in the country working to advance state and federal policies that recognize forests and forest products as climate change solutions. The role of the coalition is to inspire people to create policies that will advance climate solutions. American Forests founded and co-leads this group.
Smart Surfaces Coalition
American Forests is one of 40+ organizations participating in the Smart Surfaces Coalition, which works to address climate change and social inequity simultaneously by reforesting urban areas. We serve as a subject matter expert to educate policymakers on the role of trees in creating safe and smart transit and infrastructure.
Sustainable Urban Forests Coalition
The Sustainable Urban Forests Coalition is the only network of United States-based nonprofits, businesses, associations, foundations and others working together to advance sound, effective urban forest policy and practices. American Forests is a founding member of the coalition.
Trees for Community Recovery
Trees for Community Recovery, founded by American Forests and four other entities, is a coalition of people working to get a minimum of $20 billion in federal funding allocated to conserve, restore and grow trees in urbanized areas and create more than 100,000 jobs, mainly in underserved communities of color.
United States Climate Alliance
The United States Climate Alliance is a bipartisan coalition of governors committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, consistent with the goals of the Paris Agreement. One way they do so is by tapping into the power of forests and forest products to sequester carbon. American Forests provides support to the states as they create and implement climate policies and programs.
U.S. Nature4Climate
Conservation, environmental and sustainable business organizations started a global coalition called Nature4Climate in 2017 to ensure that natural climate solutions — such as planting trees in cities — are prioritized in policies and investments by the public and private sectors. American Forests is one of 10 entities leading the U.S. chapter of the coalition.
