American Forests Featured on NPR’s All Things Considered

American Forests is in the news again—this time on NPR’s All Things Considered, broadcasted nationally. Jad Daley, president and CEO of American Forests, talks about our work to create Tree Equity, an effort to ensure every person in the country benefits from trees. He explains that many low-income neighborhoods and communities of color do not have enough trees, while wealthier areas usually do. “If we show you a map of tree canopy in virtually any city in America, we’re also showing you a map of income…and in many cases we’re showing you a map of race and ethnicity,” he says.

That’s a problem, given the adverse health effects from heat, floods and poor air quality that emerge when there is limited tree cover. And the problem is exacerbated by climate change.  As Jad says, “…if you don’t have tree cover to cool down your neighborhood, that can literally be a life or death issue.”
